Material: LEXAN EXL AMHI240F by Sabic

It is a polycarbonate copolymer developed by Sabic for the FFF technology, which differs from the other polycarbonates because of its ability to keep high impact resistance and ductility, particular properties of this kind of polymers, even at extremely low temperatures. These characteristics make the material ideal for applications that require a wide range of operating temperatures. One more advantage is the fire resistance, which allows this material to be used also in sectors where the operating conditions are considerable.
 

Impact resistance (XY):

  • Izod Impact un-notched, 23°C : 845 J/m
  • Izod Impact un-notched, -30°C : 975 J/m
  • Izod Impact notched, 23°C : 205 J/m
  • Izod Impact notched, -30°C : 290 J/m

These values are four times better at room temperature and three times higher than -30° compared to the conventional PC developed for the FFF technology.

  • HDT ( Heat Deflection Temperature under load): 140°C
  • UL94 Flame Class rating: UL94-V0, 3mm


Applications 

Thanks to the combination of the mechanical properties, including the good impact resistance and the toughness, the PC has many applications in different sectors, especially in the automotive field, where the materials must be capable to withstand severe shocks. In this sector it represents the basic material (usually shown as a blend PC-ABS) for the production of interior trims, door panels, seat components, instruments panels and pillar covers.

In general the applications of the PC are numerous and include, for instance, consumer items like safety helmets, sports goods, suitcases.
